Welspun India’s “100% Egyptian Cotton” Bed Linens

March 2017: The Monahan case was consolidated with In re Welspun Litigation.

February 2017: A Consolidated Amended Class Action Complaint was filed. The complaint makes the same allegation (i.e., that the bed linens are falsely marketed as being “100% Egyptian Cotton” when the bed linens were produced using a non-Egyptian cotton) and adds two more defendants to the case – Bed Bath & Beyond and Target – for their role in the allegedly deceptive marketing, bringing the number of defendants involved to four. (In re Welspun Litigation, Case No. 16-cv-6792, S.D.N.Y.)

December 2016: Three false-advertising class-action lawsuits regarding the marketing of Welspun “Egyptian Cotton” bed linens were consolidated to be heard together. The consolidated lawsuits are listed below.

  • Abbott v. Welspun
  • Brower v. Welspun
  • Keep v. Welspun

November 2016: Two more class-action lawsuits were filed alleging that Welspun “Eqyptian Cotton” bed linens are falsely marketed. One lawsuit was filed against Welspun and the other was filed against Walmart, which also sells and markets the bed linens.

August 2016: class-action lawsuit was filed against Welspun India for allegedly falsely marketing bed linens as “100% Egyptian Cotton” when, according to the plaintiffs, the bed linens were produced using a non-Egyptian cotton. (Abbott et al v. Welspun India Ltd. And Welspun USA Inc., Case No. 16-c-6792, S.D.N.Y.)
