In June 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Target for allegedly deceptively marketing the Target Debit Card. Among other things, the complaint alleges that the card does not work like a “true debit card” and does not disclose important information, such as that Target’s processing practices may result in “excessive” – in some cases, nearly $100 – in overdraft fees. (Walters et al v. Target Corp., Case No. 16-cv-1678, S. D. CA.)
