June 2019: Plaintiffs moved for preliminary approval of a proposed settlement agreement that would resolve this case, as well as a related case filed in Minnesota against Target (Dixon v. Target, Case No. 18-cv-2660, D. MN.). According to its terms, class members may receive a monetary award based on the fees they were charged. Target also agreed to make certain changes to the fees (but only for a period of two years), as well as to its debit card agreement. To read the proposed settlement agreement, click here.

2016: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Target for allegedly misleadingly representing that the Target Debit RedCard is a debit card when, according to plaintiffs, Target does not process transactions immediately like ordinary debit cards and thus consumers may be charged fees for not having enough money to cover the transaction at the time it is eventually processed. (Walters et al v. Target Corp., Case No. 16-cv-1678, S. D. CA.)
