FTC Endorsement Guide Comments
In June 2020, TINA.org submitted a comment to the FTC, which was seeking public comment on whether to make changes to its Endorsement Guides. The Guides, which were first enacted in 1980 and amended in 2009, provide guidance to advertisers to ensure that ads incorporating endorsements and testimonials abide by the FTC Act.
In July 2022, after reviewing public comments submitted in 2020, the FTC proposed certain revisions to the Guides and sought comment regarding those proposals. In response, TINA.org submitted a second comment in September 2022 supporting many of the FTC’s proposed revisions, while also urging the Commission to make further edits and additions to better educate advertisers and consumers.
