Volkswagen “Clean Diesel” Vehicles

December 2022: An objector filed a Notice of Appeal regarding the November 2022 decision to approve the Porsche settlement.

November 2022: The Court granted final approval of a settlement agreement that resolves claims against Porsche.

August 2022: Plaintiffs moved for final approval of a settlement agreement that resolves claims against Porsche.

October 2017: The Court granted final approval of a settlement agreement that resolves consumers’ class-action lawsuits against Volkswagen and Audi. According to the settlement terms:

  • Class members who own eligible vehicles may receive a cash payment and have Volkswagen either buyback or fix their vehicles;
  • Class members who lease eligible vehicles may receive a cash payment and either terminate their leases without penalty or have their vehicles fixed; and
  • Class members who sold their eligible vehicles before the settlement may receive a cash payment.

Late 2015/2016: Hundreds of class-action lawsuits against Volkswagen and Audi regarding “Clean Diesel” marketing claims made about certain Volkswagen and Audi models have been transferred to a California court to be heard together. The lawsuits, which have been filed since September 2015, allege, among other things, that Volkswagen misleadingly marketed “Clean Diesel” vehicles as high performing, fuel efficient, “green,” and environmentally-friendly when, according to plaintiffs, such claims are not true.
