In July 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Toyota for allegedly representing that the Prius Plug-In can operate for approximately 13 miles on a full charge without adequately disclosing limitations due to outdoor temperatures and climate. According to the complaint, the vehicle travels approximately 8 miles on a full electric charge in the summer months only and the vehicle will not operate in electric mode when the outside temperature is below fifty-five degrees Fahrenheit. (Rosenbaum et al v. Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc., Case No. 16-cv-12645, E. D. MI.)
