Barlean’s Coconut Oil
Allegations: Misleadingly marketing products as healthy
In July 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Barlean’s Organic Oils for allegedly falsely advertising Barlean’s Greens supplement powder as a “Vegan Superfood” that will provide various health benefits – including cleansing organs and tissues, boosting energy, improving digestion, and promoting a healthy immune system – without adequate substantiation to make such claims. In addition, plaintiffs claim that the powders contain a dangerous amount of lead and are therefore harmful to a person’s health. (Brannon et al v. Barlean’s Organic Oils, LLC, Case No. 18-cv-1619, S.D. Cal.)
