Frontier Internet Services

Frontier Communications has opted to scrap rather than substantiate several print and online ad claims related to its residential internet service that were challenged by Charter Communications in order to close out an inquiry by the National Advertising Division (The National Advertising Division (NAD) is the advertising industry’s self-regulatory body administered by the Council of Better Business Bureaus.). Charter challenged claims that included:

  • Frontier can handle multiple devices.
  • Connect all your devices with blazing-fast speed.
  • FiOS internet service is available for $19.99/month.

In addition to the claims that Charter opposed, NAD recommended that Frontier stop advertising its FiOS internet service as superior to any cable internet service and make clear that its DSL internet service only starts at $19.99 and that FiOS is not available at that price. (In September 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Frontier alleging, among other things, that the company misrepresents the cost of its internet services by omitting various charges and fees and that the true cost is “over seven times the advertised price.”)

While Frontier said it would implement the recommendations, at least two of the claims NAD wanted removed remain on the company’s website.
