In April 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Toshiba for allegedly falsely marketing televisions as “LED” when, in reality, they are LCD TVs that use light emitting diodes (LEDs) to light the liquid crystal display (LCD) panel. In other words, the complaint claims that the “LED” labels misleadingly refer to the light source instead of the display technology. (Martinez et al v. Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. et al, Case No. 16-cv-2551, C. D. CA.)
