2015: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Sears (and amended in 2016) for allegedly deceptively offering service protection agreements to cover the maintenance and repair of products that are not actually covered. According to the complaint, Sears determines that products are not covered and refuses to service them after customers make a claim for service. (Greene et al v. Sears Protection Co. et al, Case No. 15-cv-2546, N.D. Ill.)
