In March 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Gojo Industries for allegedly misleadingly advertising that Purell Advanced Hand Sanitizer gels and foams “Kill[] 99.99% of Illness Causing Germs” and prevent colds, flus, and other illnesses when, according to plaintiffs, the company does not have adequate scientific support to make such claims. Plaintiffs also claim that the company does not have FDA approval for its claims. (DiBartolo et al v. Gojo Industries, Inc., Case No. 20-cv-1530, E.D.N.Y.)
