March 2018: A state court judge preliminary approved a proposed settlement agreement of this lawsuit. According to the settlement terms, class members may receive a cash payment ranging from $10 to $35 or an online store credit ranging from $20 to $30. The exact amount of each award or credit depends on the type of cable purchased. Class members who return their HDMI cables to Monster may also receive a replacement cable. In addition, the company agreed to modify the language on the boxes of Monster HDMI cables. A final fairness hearing is scheduled for February 7, 2019. 2015: A false advertising class-action lawsuit was filed against Monster, Inc.. The complaint, which was later amended in 2016, alleges that the company deceptively advertises that its High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) cables with bandwidths of 18, 22.5, or 27 are the only ones that will work properly with 1080p and 4K televisions when, according to plaintiffs, any brand HDMI cable with a bandwidth of 10.2 Gbps can transmit the signals to these televisions.
