March 2018: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Big Heart Pet Brands and The J.M. Smucker Company for allegedly deceptively marketing Kibbles ‘n Bits dog food as being safe and healthy without also disclosing that the dog food allegedly contains an ingredient that is a sedative and anesthetic for animals and is commonly used to euthanize dogs and cats. (Schirripa et al v. Big Heart Pet Brands, Inc. and The J.M. Smucker Company, Case No. 18-cv-2345, S.D.N.Y.)
