In April 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Hawaiian Isles Kona Coffee Company for allegedly falsely marketing that the coffee used in several products – including Kona Classic, Kona Sunrise, Kona Hazelnut, and Kona Vanilla Macadamia Nut – was grown in the Kona district of Hawaii when, according to plaintiffs, scientific testing shows that it is highly unlikely that the coffee originates from Kona. (Chung et al v. Hawaiian Isles Kona Coffee Company, Ltd., Case No. 20-cv-158, D. Haw.)
