Allegations: Misleadingly luring consumers into switching energy suppliers by offering competitive, market-based rates when consumers who switch actually end up paying more for their energy
In January 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Gateway Energy Services for allegedly luring consumers to switch energy suppliers by promising them that it offers competitive market-based rates for electricity when, according to plaintiffs, the company’s rates are substantially higher than the market rates. (Hitchner et al v. Gateway Energy Services Corp., Case No. 18-cv-380, S.D.N.Y.)
