CATrends: Deceptive Deals

Subscription streaming service isn’t the only way to catch the game.
There are more ways to watch the NFL than ever before. It can be tough for NFL fans to figure out which streaming service or TV channel has the game on.
But when it comes to Thursday Night Football, though, Amazon makes it sound simple, claiming that TNF games are “only on Prime.”
Yet as a TINA.org reader recently pointed out ahead of this week’s TNF matchup between the Panthers and the Packers, that isn’t exactly true. The game, like all Thursday night games, will also air on broadcast TV in both teams’ home markets.
Amazon itself admits (though not in the ad above) that there are other TNF viewing options that do not require signing up for a Prime subscription. In a post on its website, the company reveals that TNF games are not only also broadcast on local channels, they are streamed live on Twitch, which only requires a free Twitch account.
Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.
Amazon may be the exclusive streaming service provider for TNF – for which it reportedly pays the NFL about $1 billion per year – but Prime is not the “only” way to watch Thursday night games.
