In December 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against CubeSmart (a self-storage company that requires customers to maintain insurance for items stored in its units) for, among other things, allegedly offering a “Great American Stored Property Insurance Program” without disclosing that the company collects a commission and therefore has a financial interest in customers’ purchases of this insurance policy.
