Cento San Marzano Tomatoes
A false advertising class-action lawsuit was filed against Cento Fine Foods in 2019. The complaint, which was originally filed in February and amended in July, alleges that the company falsely labels its canned tomatoes as “Certified San Marzano” when, according to plaintiffs, the tomatoes are not San Marzano tomatoes and have not been certified by the Consortium of the San Marzano Tomato, the independent agency with the expertise and authority to certify tomatoes are San Marzano. (Sibrian et al v. Cento Fine Foods, Inc., Case No. 19-cv-974, E.D.N.Y.)
