May 2014: This case was voluntarily dismissed When a complaint is dismissed without prejudice, an amended version of the complaint can be refiled..
February 2014: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Universal Wellness Group over its marketing of Alkazone bottled water. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the company claims Alkazone water is a breakthrough product “enhanced with essential minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, and selenium to create a healthy 9.5 (±) pH balanced antioxidant water that helps restore the body and add support for the immune system.” However, the complaint alleges that the water does not contain any magnesium or selenium, contains far less calcium than average tap water, and contains sodium and orthophosphate, an anti-corrosive added to city water to protect pipes. In addition, the plaintiffs claim that Alkazone’s label states that a patent is pending for the product when, according to the complaint, there is no such patent application pending. (Beard v. Universal Wellness Group, Inc., a/k/a Better Health Lab, Inc. d/b/a Alkazone, Case No. 14-cv-01045, E.D.N.Y.).
