Congress focuses on weight loss ad scams this week.
The Senate’s Consumer Protection panel, chaired by U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, will hold hearings (watch the hearings here) this week examining deceptive advertising of weight-loss products. At the same time, Congress is also considering a bill that would require the FTC to look into ways to reduce the use of images of the human body in advertisements that have been altered by Photoshop. While lawmakers ponder the issues, we at TINA.org want to caution dieters about these five common weight-loss ad claims:
