2015: A false advertising class-action lawsuit was filed against Welch Foods for allegedly misrepresenting the fruit content and nutritional and health qualities of Welch’s Fruit Snacks. Specifically, the complaint claims that the snacks contain significant amounts of fruits and are nutritious and healthier than similar products when, according to the plaintiffs, the snacks contain small amounts of fruits and are “no more healthful than candy.” According to the complaint, two of the first three ingredients are added sweeteners.
