JVC-logoThe Jewelers Vigilance Commitee, which was formed in 1917, provides education and self-regulation to the jewelry industry. Members of JVC — who can place the JVC logo on their marketing materials — are supposed to abide by a set of Membership Standards and Compliance Practices. However, JVC membership is voluntary and the only apparent punishment for not complying with the standards and practices (which include a requirement that representations about products purchased and sold be accurate) is the inability to use the JVC logo. The JVC also takes consumer complaints regarding problems with jewelry purchases (including advertising issues) and the JVC will then help the consumer resolve the matter.
