August 2016: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Boulder Brands for allegedly deceptively packaging Low Sodium and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Smart Balance® buttery spreads. The complaint alleges that the company uses the same size square tubs for the Low Sodium and Extra Virgin Olive Oil spreads as it does for the Original spread when they actually contain different amounts of product. According to the complaint, the tub of the Original variety contains 15 ounces of product while the Low Sodium and Extra Virgin Olive Oil spreads contain only 13 ounces of product. (Pepper et al v.
