September 2015: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Whole Foods for allegedly deceptively marketing its meat products as subject to a 5-Step® Animal Welfare Rating System (which outlines practices to promote animal welfare) when, in reality, the certification standards “barely exceed common industry practices” and suppliers who violate the standards do not lose certification.
