In May 2017, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Vitamin Shoppe for allegedly falsely advertising that its Garcinia Cambogia Extract dietary supplement effectively aids in “weight management” and “appetite control” when, according to the complaint, scientific evidence proves that the supplement’s only active ingredients (specifically, hydroxycitric acid and chromium) are incapable of providing such weight-loss benefits.
