Vanilla Bean Ice Cream by Lidl

In August 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Lidl US for allegedly misleadingly advertising that its ice creams are made with vanilla beans when, according to plaintiffs, the ice creams contain artificial vanilla flavors and less vanilla than consumers expect. Plaintiffs also claim that the company misleadingly adds exhausted “Ground Vanilla Bean Specks” that do not add any flavor to make consumers think the ice cream contains more vanilla than it actually does. (Duffy et al v. Lidl US, LLC, Case No. 20-cv-3578, E.D.N.Y.)
