May 2017: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Urbani Truffles USA for allegedly deceptively labeling its White Truffle and Black Truffle oils as containing white and black truffles when, according to the complaint, the oils do not contain the truffles and are instead flavored with a chemically-derived perfume (known as 2,4-dithiapentane or formaldehyde dimethyl mercaptal). (Schiffman et al v. Urbani Truffles USA, Inc., Case No. 17-cv-935, E. D. CA.)
