Complaint to FTC cites violations of agency’s Impersonation Rule.
In May 2014, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Trader Joe’s Co. for allegedly misleadingly marketing its sunflower seeds. Among other things, the complaint claims that the company markets the sunflower seeds as a healthy snack without adequately disclosing that the sunflower kernels and the sunflower shells contain a “dangerously high” level of sodium. (DiSimone et al. v. Trader Joe’s Co., Case No. BC544924, Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles).
