March 2019: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Spark Energy for allegedly using a bait-and-switch marketing scheme in which it lures consumers to switch to their electricity supplier by offering a low rate for a specific number of months followed by a competitive market rate when, according to the complaint, the company charges market rates that are higher than the rates of other electricity suppliers.
