July 2014: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Sunoco for allegedly misrepresenting that consumers can use Sunoco Gift Cards “just like cash.” Specifically, plaintiffs claim that Sunoco promises its gift card is “good for purchases at every Sunoco – just like cash” when, according to the complaint, consumers who use the gift cards are charged the higher credit/debit price instead of the lower cash price. (Stern et al v. Sunoco, Inc., Energy Transfer Partners, L.P., Sunoco Logistics Partners L.P., and Middletown Sunoco, Case No. 14-cv-04061, E. D. PA.).
