February 2014: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Suja Life, LLC for allegedly falsely labeling and advertising its fruit and vegetable juice products, including Suja Classic and Suja Fresh Start. Specifically, plaintiffs claim that the company represents that its juices are “raw” (or unpasteurized) when, according to the complaint, the company uses an alternative to traditional pasteurization to treat the products (known as High Pressure Processing or HPP) and the juices do not have the characteristics and qualities of “raw” products. (Heikkila et al v. Suja Life, LLC, Case No. 14-cv-00556, N. D. CA.).
