Sales Taxes Charged by DoorDash

In April 2019, a class-action lawsuit was filed against the food delivery company DoorDash. The complaint alleges that the company provides customers with an overview of their order before they complete their order and that this overview falsely represents that one of the added fees is a sales tax when, according to plaintiffs, the fee is actually not a tax and DoorDash keeps the amount as profit. Plaintiffs also claim that the company misleadingly gives customers in tax-free states the impression that this charge is a lawful and required tax when, according to the complaint, it is not. (Moore et al v. DoorDash, Inc., Case No. 19-cv-636, D. DE.)
