August 2016: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Eight O’Clock Coffee Company for allegedly deceiving consumers by using the same size, non-transparent, red bags for its traditional Eight O’Clock Coffee The Original as its specialty coffee products when the specialty products actually contain less coffee than the traditional products. According to the complaint, the traditional Eight O’Clock Coffee The Original packages contain 12 ounces of coffee while its specialty coffee blends contain only 11 or 11.5 ounces of coffee.
