In September 2017, a false advertising class-action lawsuit was filed against American Sugar Refining for allegedly misleadingly marketing the Domino, C&H, and Florida Crystals brands of Organic Agave Nectars as being natural, organic, and containing only one ingredient (organic agave nectar) when, according to plaintiffs, the nectars contain non-natural, non-organic ingredients. The complaint also alleges the nectars contain isolmaltose, which is commonly found in high fructose corn syrup, and other non-natural sweeteners. (Valdes et al v. American Sugar Refining, Inc., Case No. 17-cv-5213, E. D. NY.)
