January 2018: Plaintiffs moved for preliminary approval of a proposed settlement agreement. According to its terms, class members who were enrolled in a variable rate plan will receive a cash refund of at least $2, the exact amount dependent on how much electricity and natural gas was used. November 2014: A class-action lawsuit was filed against North American Power and Gas for allegedly deceptively inducing consumers to switch electricity suppliers. According to the complaint, the supplier offers consumers a low initial rates followed by a “variable rate” plan that is tied to the fluctuating market price when, according to the plaintiffs, the supplier’s rates only go up and consumers pay three to four times the market rate.
