June 2020: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Western Digital Corp. for allegedly failing to disclose in its marketing of certain hard drives that they use Shingle Magnetic Recording (SMR) technology resulting in slower performance and inferior stability compared to devices that use Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) technology. (Brown et al v. Western Digital Corp., Case No. 20-cv-4624, S.D.N.Y.)
