June 2018: A class-action lawsuit was filed against VitaJuwel for allegedly falsely advertising the effects GemWater bottles (bottles with various stones in smaller, airtight containers inside of them) have on water poured into them. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the marketing claims that the water bottles increase the pH of water from 7.87 to 8.02 and increase the dissolved oxygen from 9.90% to 10.04% when, according to plaintiffs, such claims are not true and the company does not have a scientific basis for making the claims. (Ashkinazi et al v. VitaJuwel USA, Inc., Case No. 2018-CH-07777, Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois)
