February 2015: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Lovehoney, Inc. for allegedly falsely marketing the over-the-counter product called Fifty Shades of Grey Come Alive Pleasure Gel for Her. Among other things, the complaint alleges that the company uses statements – such as “Intimate Arousal Gel,” “increase[s] sensual comfort and pleasure,” and “Heighten your pleasure with Come Alive, an intimate arousal gel that enhances orgasms and stimulation” – to represent that the product will help a user experience heightened stimulation, pleasure, and orgasm when, in reality, the product is not effective as an aphrodisiac.
