Did Timothée Chalamet Just Take a Dig at Deceptive Marketing?

Why I’m a fan of this Adidas World Cup ad.

Everyone loves a good story and that’s just what Timothée Chalamet delivers in this ad for Adidas.

If you’ve been watching the World Cup, as I have, you’ve probably already seen the commercial, which has been running throughout the summer soccer tournament. In it, the “Marty Supreme” actor recounts a “local crew” that plays “win or go home and they haven’t gone home, not in 30 years.”

However, when questioned about the veracity of the account, he begins to backpedal:

I’m telling you, it’s all true, most of it, probably.

I like the “Backyard Legends” ad for a few reasons. Not only am I a fan of Chalamet’s, the commercial also features a number of cameos from soccer stars including England’s Jude Bellingham and Spain’s Lamine Yamal.

But the spot also appears to poke fun at ads that make up stories – or include advertising claims – that are too good to be true, which are the types of ads we work to expose here at TINA.org.

With Chalamet on our side, we can’t lose.
