May 2013: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Fifth Third Bank alleging that the bank’s advertised APR rate for its Early Access Program is false and misleading. Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that the bank discloses a 120% Annual percentage rate; the amount of interest charged to a credit card, loan or mortgage account balances annually. to its checking-account customers who want to open an account with a line of credit to obtain short-term advances based on their regular direct deposits, but the rate actually tends to be much higher. (Harrison, et al. v. Fifth Third Bank, Case No. 13-cv-0046, M.D. Tenn.)
