November 2016: This case was voluntarily dismissed When a complaint is dismissed with prejudice, it cannot be refiled., the reasons for which have not been disclosed.

April 2016: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Direct Energy for allegedly deceptively luring consumers to switch to them as their energy supplier by falsely promising consumers lower electricity bills. According to the complaint, the named plaintiff paid 5.84 cents/kWh to her original electricity supplier and the rate she pays after switching to Direct Energy is 6.79 cents/kWh. In addition, the named plaintiff represents that she never received the $50 gift card she was promised as an incentive to switch. (Plaintiffs filed an amended complaint in June 2016.)
