August 2016: A federal court dismissed some of the claims in the case When a complaint is dismissed with prejudice, it cannot be refiled. and others When a complaint is dismissed without prejudice, an amended version of the complaint can be refiled.. Later that month, the named plaintiff filed an amended complaint making similar allegations against General Mills.

November 2015: A class-action lawsuit was filed against General Mills for allegedly falsely marketing Cheerios Protein as a high protein, healthful alternative to Cheerios when Cheerios Protein actually has “only a smidgen more protein per serving than Cheerios,” according to the complaint. In addition, plaintiffs claim that the company does not adequately disclose that Cheerios Protein contains 17 times as much sugar per serving as Cheerios. (Coe et al v. General Mills, Inc., Case No. 15-cv-5112, N. D. CA.)
