Cheddar and Sour Cream PopChips Ridges
In December 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against VMG Partners for allegedly falsely advertising that the characterizing flavors in Cheddar & Sour Cream PopChips Ridges are cheddar cheese and sour cream when, according to plaintiffs, the chips do not contain enough cheddar cheese to provide flavor on its own and the ingredients list reveals that the chips do not contain any sour cream at all. The complaint also claims that the ingredients list reveals that the chips contain unspecified “Natural Flavors,” which plaintiffs allege add cheddar cheese and sour cream flavors to the chips. Plaintiffs also allege that the chips contain orange food coloring ingredients (specifically, annatto and turmeric) to make consumers think the chips contain more cheddar cheese than they actually do. (Salony et al v. VMG Partners, LLC, Case No. 20-cv-10273, S.D.N.Y.)
