In October 2017, a state court judge granted preliminary approval of a settlement agreement that would resolve a 2016 false advertising class-action lawsuit alleging that Big 5 Sporting Goods misrepresents that Bearpaw Lassen WP hiking boots are waterproof. According to the settlement terms, class members may receive either a $5 cash award or a $7.50 merchandise voucher to use toward a future purchase at a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in California.
