February 2019: A class-action lawsuit was filed against A & W Concentrate Company and Keurig Dr. Pepper Inc. for allegedly misleadingly marketing that A & W Root Beer and Cream Sodas are “made with aged vanilla” when, according to plaintiffs, the sodas do not contain real vanilla and are actually made with a chemical flavor that mimics the taste of vanilla. (Sharpe et al v. A & W Concentrate Company and Keurig Dr Pepper Inc., Case No. 19-cv-768, E.D.N.Y.)
