Online Porn Can Give You a Virus

Thank God for porn!  No, really – did you know that many of the Internet’s innovative advances have been pioneered or substantially boosted by the $1 billion adult entertainment industry?  The development of online payment systems, streaming content, live chat, and even broadband usage have all been driven, at least in part, by porn.

On the flip side, porn sites are responsible for the proliferation of much of the Internet’s spam and malware.   A popular saying on the Internet goes, “Looking for malware? Search for porn.”  Symantec’s 2011 Internet Security report shows that pornography and sexually explicit websites are the top portals to Short for “malicious software”; includes viruses and spyware that steal personal information, send spam, and commit fraud. (See Badware.) infections.  Racy ads for porn can be found just about everywhere, but clicking on one of these links can really get you screwed.

Links to porn sites have been spreading like wildfire on A website that allows you to build a profile and connect with otherss such as Facebook and Twitter.  An unsuspecting click on the wrong ad and within minutes you’re inundating all 200+ of your closest friends and family with porn spam and maybe even setting yourself up for a virtual STD.  Sorry, Mom.
