Betty Crocker Milk Chocolate Frosting

A TINA.org reader says Betty Crocker’s representations that its milk chocolate frosting contains milk are udderly false.

The reader pointed to the ingredients listed on the back:

Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Palm Oil, Corn Starch, Water, Cocoa Processed With Alkali. Contains 2% or less of: Salt, Monoglycerides, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Citric Acid, Natural and Artificial Flavors, and Potassium Sorbate.

No milk to be found.

In fact, the only mention of milk on the back of the frosting comes in the form of an allergen warning stating that the product “may contain” milk ingredients. (The same warning appears on the product listing on the Betty Crocker website.)

TINA.org reached out to Betty Crocker for comment. Check back for updates.

In the meantime, consumers need to remember to check the ingredients list and not rely solely on the marketing on the front label when making purchasing decisions.
