Testim ‘Low T’ May Be a High Risk

Testim is a testosterone gel that, among other things, promises to bring back a man’s mojo. But the reward may not be worth the risk. Before turning to this so-called “low T” drug, consumers should heed the warnings that are posted on the product’s website, which include:

  • A possible increased risk of prostate cancer.
  • Blood clots in the legs and lungs.
  • Dangers associated with the transfer of the testosterone gel to others.

Consumers should also consider that the FDA last year opened an investigation into the risk of stroke, heart attack and death in men taking FDA-approved testosterone products, and that more recently an expert panel recommended that the FDA rein in the labeling of these types of drugs so that they are appropriately prescribed.

According to the New York Times:

Once used only to treat serious medical conditions, testosterone drugs are now taken by over two million American men, mostly for symptoms that are largely a result of aging, a pattern that has alarmed some medical experts.

And as always: Consult your health care provider before taking any drug.
