In October 2019, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Sanofi for allegedly misleadingly marketing the over-the-counter heartburn medication Zantac as safe when, according to plaintiffs, the medicine contains dangerously high levels of the carcinogen N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).
