YouTube App on LG’s Smart TVs

In November 2017, a class-action lawsuit was filed against LG Electronics alleging that the company misleadingly markets Smart TVs as being capable of accessing videos from YouTube when, according to plaintiffs, consumers no longer have access to the YouTube app on Smart TVs that send content and communicate using an older, flash-based Application Programming Interface (API). (According to the complaint, Smart TVs manufactured with the newer, HTML5-based API system still provide access to YouTube.) The lawsuit was transferred to federal court in December 2017. (Conn et al v. LG Electronics U.S.A., Inc., Case No. 17-cv-8793, C. D. CA.)
